Surveillance cameras have been installed at the Cloyna waste transfer facility in a bid to catch firebugs.<\/p>\n

Cr Roz Frohloff told South Burnett Regional Council’s Community Standing Committee last week that fires had continued to be lit at the facility.<\/p>\n

These fires had caused damage to assets at the transfer station.<\/p>\n

Cr Frohloff said the cameras had been installed in an attempt to identify the perpetrator and discourage people from engaging in anti-social behaviour.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“If able to find who is causing these fires, then Council will be able issue fines for the illegal behaviour under the legislation as well as reporting them to the police for the unlawful acts,” she said.<\/p>\n

She encouraged the Cloyna community to “dob in a dumper”.<\/p>\n

Cr Frohloff also told the meeting a lot of illegal dumping was happening in State Forestry areas around the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

She said a Memorandum of Understanding was being drafted to formalise Council’s relationship with the State Forestry Department to spell out the responsibilities of each entity.<\/p>\n

“Illegal dumping is a cross-governmental problem and we need to work together to improve it,” she said.<\/p>\n
