A special presentation was made at Murgon State High School’s weekly parade on Wednesday to a former staff member who retired recently.<\/p>\n

Jennifer Boue was presented with a prestigious Peter Doherty Award for\u00a0Outstanding STEM Support Officer.<\/p>\n

The State Government award recognises her work as a laboratory technician at the school since 2013.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jennifer was nominated for the statewide award by Murgon SHS’s Acting Head of Department (Maths & Science) Erica Marschall.<\/p>\n

“We’re very proud of Jenny and this achievement,” Erica said.<\/p>\n

“Jenny has retired this term, and this has been the perfect way to recognise all of her hard work and achievements over her time here at Murgon State High.<\/p>\n

“She has been a mentor to teachers, supported them in their STEM endeavours, and has most importantly always put the students first in all of the work that she does – by supporting them with experiments for their assessment and supporting them on excursions and events such as STEM Gala Day.<\/p>\n

“She is very much loved and admired by all staff and students, and will be greatly missed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We hope that she thoroughly enjoys her retirement – it is well earned!”<\/p>\n

The Peter Doherty Awards for Excellence – which recognise students, teachers, schools and support staff from across Queensland – were announced by Education Minister Grace Grace last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking at the list of winners, it\u2019s clear that our students and teachers are doing amazing things in the STEM space,\u201d Ms Grace said.<\/p>\n

Nineteen students and six teachers from across the State as well as the University of Queensland and\u00a0Thuringowa State High School also received the $5000 prize.<\/p>\n

\u201cI congratulate the 28 winners on receiving this award which acknowledges outstanding achievements, enthusiasm and contributions to STEM in schools and communities,” Ms Grace said.<\/p>\n

The awards celebrate the life and on-going work of Brisbane-born Nobel Prize-winning scientist, Prof Peter Doherty.<\/p>\n
