Kumbia residents will be consulted about proposed upgrades to the town’s CBD after South Burnett Councillors unanimously approved draft plans at Wednesday’s Infrastructure Standing Committee meeting.<\/p>\n

Councillors also agreed to two extra motions from the floor put by Mayor Brett Otto.<\/p>\n

Mayor Otto’s first motion was to have work on the CBD upgrade completed by Christmas 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said he was proposing this deadline partly to ensure the project was given priority in the 2022-23 works program, and partly because the Kumbia community had already waited several years for upgrade works to begin.<\/p>\n

He regretted it would not be possible to do the work earlier, but said this was largely due to shortages in the building and construction industries that were affecting many projects across the region.<\/p>\n

Mayor Otto’s second motion was that a report be brought back to a future meeting about the costs involved in upgrading Kumbia’s Apex Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The park is used by caravanners passing through the region or visiting the nearby Bunya Mountains.<\/p>\n

Mayor Otto said this upgrade could include such things as better toilets, a dump point, signage and lighting.<\/p>\n

He said proper costings would allow this project to be included in a future capital works budget.<\/p>\n

Both motions were seconded by Deputy Mayor Gavin Jones, and carried unanimously.<\/p>\n

A date for a public consultation meeting on the CBD upgrade plans is expected to be announced within the next few weeks.<\/p>\n
