The fun, the stories and – of course – the costumes were out in force at South Burnett libraries last week.<\/p>\n

The reason for the fancy dress was Children\u2019s Book Week, an annual event designed to bring children and books together through activities, costume parades and reading sessions designed to encourage children to engage with literature.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Book Week theme was \u201cOld Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds\u201d and the Kingaroy Home Schooling group turned out in force at Kingaroy Library to show off their Book Week costumes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, with so many imaginative costumes on show judging the competition’s winners proved the hardest task.<\/p>\n

Cr Danita Potter said it was tough choosing just three winners out of the 30 children who entered the event.<\/p>\n

“Thank you for all the effort and creativity you put into this year\u2019s Book Week,” Cr Potter told them.<\/p>\n

“I can\u2019t wait to come back next year to see a new line up of costumes.”<\/p>\n

Other highlights of Book Week included a well-supported scavenger hunt run at all South Burnett library branches that drew 89 young participants, and a visit by the First 5 Forever reading co-ordinator to eight local schools.<\/p>\n

Book Week activities were also held at most South Burnett schools.<\/p>\n
