Nanango will be hosting the last round of the South Burnett Rugby League competition this Saturday ahead of the finals series – and there will be a special treat for footy fans.<\/p>\n

An A Grade Toowoomba competition game between Valleys and Newtown will top off a big day of league, kicking off at 5:15pm.<\/p>\n

Last weekend, the focus was at Murgon Sportsground where Cherbourg pulled off an upset in A Grade, and the senior Wolves played their best game of the year – sadly their last for this season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the first A Grade game, the Nanango Stags suffered their second defeat on the trot, going down 22-16 to the Cherbourg Hornets.<\/p>\n

Nanango opened the scoring and were quickly leading 10-0 but at half-time Cherbourg had inched ahead 12-10.<\/p>\n

The Stags came out strongly again after the break and regained the lead before tries by Keith Gadd Jnr and Charlie Bond put Cherbourg six points clear.<\/p>\n

The Hornets withstood Nanango pressure on their line – despite giving away repeated back-to-back penalties – to hold on for the last 10 minutes to notch up the win.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg tries were scored by Malachi Wallace, Norman Wragge, Alex Speedy, Keith Gadd Jr and Charlie Bond.\u00a0Alex Speedy kicked one goal.<\/p>\n

For Nanango, Thomas Springate – backing up from the earlier Under 18s game – scored two tries and kicked two goals.<\/p>\n

The other Nanango try scorer was Brent Greenslade.<\/p>\n

Murgon Mustangs defeated ladder leaders Nanango the previous week, but Wondai had drawn level with them at half-time last Saturday<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In the second A Grade game, Murgon defeated Wondai 56-38 after the scores were locked 22-all at half-time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was Wondai’s last appearance for the season and they really gave Murgon a run for their money in a high-scoring game.<\/p>\n

Ten-minute send-offs and injuries didn’t help the Wolves’ cause although the Mustangs also lost players to the bin at critical times.<\/p>\n

Murgon tries were scored by Maurice Fisher (2), Josiah Alberts (2), Karl Berlin (2), Michael Giles (2), Daron Saltner-Bligh and Jameel Sullivan.<\/p>\n

Saltner-Bligh kicked three goals and Elwyn Fewquandie kicked five.<\/p>\n

Wondai try scorers were Robert Carlo (2), Sonny Weazel (2), Alex Georgetown, Alfred Watcho and Bradley Alberts.<\/p>\n

Georgetown kicked four goals and Steve Watcho kicked one.<\/p>\n

A TJRL Under 18s game was also played at Murgon, between the South Burnett Eagles and Wattles Warriors.<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Burnett came out on top 56-12 after leading 28-12 at half-time.<\/p>\n

South Burnett tries were scored by Lachlan Zelinski (2), Lennox Bligh (2), Lloyd Langton, Toby Schmidt, Reece Kitchingham, Lachlan Bligh, Jacqwon Murray and Matthew Springate.\u00a0Langton kicked eight goals.<\/p>\n

For Wattles, Gus Hutchison and Reuben Sullivan scored a try each, and Jacob Meddleton kicked two goals.<\/p>\n
