Using a mobile phone while driving is not only illegal, it could have fatal consequences<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Murgon police have warned drivers they will be targeting Fatal Five offences this Road Safety Week, including using mobile phones.<\/p>\n

It is illegal to hold a mobile phone in your hand – or have it resting on any part of your body, including your lap – when driving a motor vehicle on Queensland roads.<\/p>\n

The penalty is a $1000 fine and four demerit points.<\/p>\n

A police spokesperson said using a phone while driving was as dangerous as drink-driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Keep your mind on your driving\/riding\/walking and look at the road, not at your phone,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Don\u2019t use your phone while driving, riding, or walking near traffic.<\/p>\n

“New fixed and portable cameras detect drivers using mobile phones illegally and failing to wear a seatbelt, have been introduced by the Queensland Government.<\/p>\n

“Activate the \u2018do not disturb while driving\u2019 feature in your smartphone before you get behind the wheel or on your motorcycle.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
