Following the announcement of a statewide lockdown in NSW, Queensland now requires any NSW resident who lives anywhere in the border zone to only enter Queensland for essential reasons.<\/p>\n

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said that from 8:00pm on Saturday, NSW border zone residents can enter Queensland for obtaining essential goods and services that cannot reasonably be obtained in NSW.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe situation in NSW continues to be very concerning,\u201d Dr Young said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven the escalation of local restrictions, we have no choice but to put in place a tighter border situation to protect Queenslanders.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis means anyone who has been to any of the northern NSW local government areas in our established border zone can only come into Queensland for really essential reasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the same restriction we have in place for the seven LGAs of Ballina, Brewarrina, Bourke, Byron, Walgett, Lismore and Richmond Valley.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reasons to cross the border into Queensland for work will be restricted to essential work. If it\u2019s not absolutely essential, do not cross the border.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI know this is tough \u2013 those living in northern NSW are our close neighbours and they access Queensland for a range of reasons, but right now, that can\u2019t continue until their outbreak gets under control.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be in place for at least seven days, and we\u2019ll continue to monitor the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI urge Queenslanders to reconsider their need to go to NSW at all.<\/p>\n

\u201cImportantly, and as we ask all Queenslanders, anyone who has been in northern NSW recently should get tested immediately if they have any symptoms at all, even really mild symptoms.\u201d<\/p>\n

Border Zone Details<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

From 8:00pm on Saturday, NSW border zone residents can only enter Queensland for a permitted essential purpose:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Attend permitted work or emergency volunteering<\/li>\n
  • Attend school or childcare \u2013 only for children of essential workers. Essential workers can transport their children to attend face to face schooling or to attend a childcare facility<\/li>\n
  • Provide assistance, care or support to a vulnerable person or family member or visit a terminally ill relative<\/li>\n
  • Fulfil an obligation relating to shared parenting, child contact or contact between siblings<\/li>\n
  • Get a COVID-19 test or vaccination<\/li>\n
  • In an emergency situation<\/li>\n
  • For safety reasons (to avoid injury or illness, or to escape a risk of harm, including domestic violence)<\/li>\n
  • As directed by an emergency officer<\/li>\n
  • To follow an exemption you have been granted by the Chief Health Officer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    They cannot enter Queensland:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • To attend a wedding or funeral<\/li>\n
    • To exercise<\/li>\n
    • For recreational purposes, including\u00a0holidays, watching\u00a0professional sporting events,\u00a0attending cinemas, theme parks or other tourist experiences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      People who go outside the NSW border zone into other parts of NSW (or any other COVID-19 hotspot), will not be able to re-enter Queensland via road and will have to quarantine for 14 days in government-arranged accommodation at their own expense when they come home by air.<\/p>\n

      Essential work includes work that is urgently required for:<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \n
      • Safety reasons<\/li>\n
      • Emergency repairs<\/li>\n
      • That is necessary to maintain essential services and supplies to the community, or part of the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        It includes work performed by:<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \n
        • A medical practitioner or other prescribed health practitioner (including at residential aged care facilities, disability accommodation services and aged care or NDIS supports provided to a person\u2019s home)<\/li>\n
        • An emergency health services or emergency services worker<\/li>\n
        • National defence, state security or police worker<\/li>\n
        • A freight or logistics operator<\/li>\n
        • An emergency infrastructure worker<\/li>\n
        • Air crew or maritime crew<\/li>\n
        • An emergency volunteer<\/li>\n
        • A disaster management worker<\/li>\n
        • A critical infrastructure worker<\/li>\n
        • A tradesperson or construction worker for essential or emergency construction or repairs only<\/li>\n
        • An emergency volunteer, volunteering for any community or government welfare, social, safety, emergency or disaster service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Essential workers do not include:<\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          • Teachers<\/li>\n
          • Anyone who can perform their work remotely, at home<\/li>\n
          • Childcare workers<\/li>\n
          • Hospitality workers<\/li>\n
          • Sales representatives<\/li>\n
          • Commercial construction workers on non-critical projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            People entering Queensland for essential work, or returning from permitted work in a lockdown zone, may be asked for evidence that they are performing essential work.<\/p>\n

            This evidence could include a letter on your employer’s letterhead, a roster or a booked appointment that shows they need to be physically present to perform essential work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
