The Kumbia Hall Committee is keen to hear from local residents who have stories or photographs from the early days of the town.<\/p>\n

Hall committee secretary Gayle Carroll said the hall – formally known as the “Kumbia & District Memorial School of Arts” –\u00a0will be celebrating its 100-year anniversary in September 2022.<\/p>\n

“One proposal is to recognise the original selectors\u00a0of the Taabinga Resumption of 1906-07,\u00a0which comprised parts of Reedy Creek, Benair and Haly Creek; the ‘Horton Group’ settlement\u00a0west of Mannuem Road in 1909;\u00a0and the ‘new’ Taabinga resumption of 1911-12 consisting of Kumbia District, Alice Creek and Ellesmere,” Gayle said.<\/p>\n

“We are hoping to confirm the names of the\u00a0original selectors that are found on early Taabinga\u00a0and Haly Parish maps.<\/p>\n

“The ‘Horton Group’ names\u00a0are already well-documented.<\/p>\n

“It is planned to update the existing Pioneer Monument display boards at the hall with a Kumbia District map on one side and an alphabetical list of all original selectors with Portion\/Lot numbers and other relevant historical information on the other side.”<\/p>\n

Gayle told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> a “pioneer walk” could also be established in the hall grounds – similar to a project opened last year at Biggenden.<\/p>\n

“We hope to establish a walk with a story and\u00a0a photo of individual families whose descendants are willing to contribute to having their story on permanent public display,” Gayle said.<\/p>\n
