Ergon Energy and Energex are inviting applications for their 2022 apprenticeship intake.<\/p>\n

There are 116 roles available, including electrotechnology electricians, distribution linespersons, mechanical fitters and communication techs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Energy Minister Mick de Brenni said the class of 2022 would start their training in February, joining 460 apprentices already learning the ropes with Ergon and Energex.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the past 15 years, Ergon and Energex have trained more than 1000 apprentices,” Mr\u00a0de Brenni said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe next cohort of apprentices will be entering the industry at a time of incredible change, and the world-class training they\u2019ll receive with Energex and Ergon will put them at the forefront.\u201d<\/p>\n

Electrical Trades Union State Secretary Peter Ong encouraged anyone interested in an apprenticeship to apply.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re facing a huge change in our industry here in Queensland and all over the world, looking to transition to renewables in the future, and these apprentices will get the opportunity to train and get qualified with this transition at the forefront,\u201d Mr Ong said.<\/p>\n

Forty per cent of the roles will be based at Energex sites in south-east Queensland, while the remaining 70 positions will be available at Ergon depots in regional areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr de Brenni said the diversity of apprentice applicants had emerged as a key strength of the program.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur most recent intake included a mix of school leavers and mature-age starters, including former defence force personnel retraining for new civilian careers, First Nations people, and record interest from female applicants,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Applications close on August 16.<\/p>\n
