Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park will be getting a name change soon, providing the Australian Security and Investments Commission (ASIC) agree.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council voted to apply to ASIC to change the tourist park’s business name to Boondooma Dam Caravan and Recreation Park at Wednesday’s meeting.<\/p>\n

The name change has been prompted partly by the need to bring uniformity to the region’s two tourist parks, and partly by marketing considerations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Councillors were told most people referred to the park as “Boondooma Dam” rather than “Lake Boondooma”.<\/p>\n

Similarly, most visitors referred to “Bjelke-Petersen Dam” rather than “Lake Barambah”.<\/p>\n

Changing the name would officially recognise what had been happening “unofficially” since the park opened in the early 2000s.<\/p>\n

It would also make Council’s “Two Dams – One Destination” marketing campaign easier for potential visitors to grasp.<\/p>\n

The name change will be reflected in new signs that will be erected at both tourist parks once the new name receives ASIC approval.<\/p>\n

Other changes – to stationery, phone book listings, websites and other places using the tourist park’s “Lake Boondooma” name – will be made over time as they come due for reprinting or renewal.<\/p>\n

Wednesday’s general meeting also approved hire rates for Boondooma Dam’s Contractor Conference Centre (CCC), a new facility in a repurposed building.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The CCC offers guests six single rooms and a shared common area, and Councillors heard it is already popular with contractors working in the Boondooma area.<\/p>\n

Council officers recommended the CCC’s rate should be $60 per person per night, year-round.<\/p>\n

Cr Kathy Duff told the meeting she had originally been opposed to the CCC idea because she wanted to see the building used by the dam’s Fish Stocking Association.<\/p>\n

However, now the CCC was built, she was happy to admit she was wrong.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new facility was wonderful, she said, and the fish stocking association was still able to use part of the building.<\/p>\n
