A third round of the successful\u00a0Cherbourg Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) has been scheduled to begin later this month.<\/p>\n

The program is a collaborative between Cherbourg Health Service, CRAICCHS, Cherbourg Council and the University of Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe programs are known collectively as D\u2019arin Djanum, which means \u2018strong together\u2019 in the Wakka Wakka language,\u201d Cherbourg Community Health clinical psychologist and project co-ordinator Arvind Ponnapalli said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPromoting children’s social and emotional wellbeing and preparing them to thrive in the future is what every parent, family, and community wants.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe often draw upon parenting practices from previous generations that provided solutions to common parenting challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Ponnapalli said parents and caregivers could also draw on cultural wisdom, family and community support, and positive parenting strategies that are proven to help child and family wellbeing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe entire project is being led at the community level,\u201d CRAICCHS manager Katherine Simpson said.<\/p>\n

Ronella Fewquandie and Leeann Cliff, from CRAICCHS, are accredited to provide Indigenous Triple P in the community.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Health Service Manager Tarita Fisher said the program – on July 20-22 and August 3 – will be held at the Ration Shed Boys Dormitory conference facilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Parents or caregivers have to attend all four days from 9:30am to 2:00pm to complete the program.<\/p>\n

The group program is free of charge to parents, grandparents, and carers of children aged between two and 12 years of age.<\/p>\n

There will COVID-safe catering, including morning tea and lunch provided, plus free Triple P resources for all participants.<\/p>\n
