Kingaroy Airport can be a busy place … it is used by private aviators, the QFES, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the RAAF and the Kingaroy Soaring Club<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

South Burnett Regional Council in inviting consultants to prepare a 20-year master plan to guide the future development of Kingaroy Aerodrome.<\/p>\n

Tender documents for the project were released on Wednesday, and offers close on August 6.<\/p>\n

The area to be covered by the plan includes the actual airstrip and adjacent buildings, as well as the land beside the airport that is currently used for cropping, as well as housing the Kingaroy RSPCA, Kingaroy Men’s Shed, Kingaroy and District Vintage Machinery Club, the Kingaroy Observatory and the South Burnett Junior Motorcycle Club.<\/p>\n

The plan will also cover the heritage aspects of the aerodrome, which was an important World War II base.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Kingaroy Aerodrome is an essential public infrastructure asset that can generate significant social and economic benefits to the entire community but needs to be properly planned and protected over the long term to realise these benefits and ensure the safe and efficient operation of the facility,” the tender documents state.<\/p>\n

“Poor planning of aerodromes can lead to a range of problems including operational restrictions, uncoordinated land use and development and a general lack of consistency in the management of key issues.<\/p>\n

“With no master plan in place the Kingaroy Aerodrome lacks strategic intent that provides direction for Council, user groups and the community regarding current and future use of this facility.”<\/p>\n

Tenderers have been asked to deliver a 20-year staged approach, dependent on current and future revenue streams.<\/p>\n

“The master plan shall provide a direction for the airport in terms of future infrastructure development, land use and cost recovery, balanced against the economic and social requirements and aspirations of the South Burnett community,” the\u00a0tender documents state.<\/p>\n

Key objectives include identifying aviation and non-aviation opportunities to increase revenue and improve the financial viability of the aerodrome and approaches to prevent the potential encroachment of incompatible activities and development nearby.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Plans must be developed for future land use, facilities development, the road network and aviation heritage.<\/p>\n

The successful tenderer must also consult with key stakeholders, including the Kingaroy Aerodrome Users Committee, and the public while developing the master plan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
