{"id":301879,"date":"2021-07-06T17:03:54","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T07:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=301879"},"modified":"2021-07-07T18:15:01","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T08:15:01","slug":"pop-up-recycling-takes-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2021\/07\/06\/pop-up-recycling-takes-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Pop-Up Recycling Takes Off"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_245089\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-245089\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190926recycling2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-245089\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190926recycling2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190926recycling2.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190926recycling2-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190926recycling2-285x177.jpg 285w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20190926recycling2-263x163.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-245089\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Christine Beresford &#8230; working to ensure as many eligible bottles and cans as possible are recycled in the South Burnett<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>July 6, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South Burnett residents eager to cash in their cans and bottles now have some new pop-up options which might be a bit closer to home.<\/p>\n<p>Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council &#8211; which operates the Containers For Change depots in Cherbourg and Kingaroy &#8211; is now running pop-up depots in Nanango, Blackbutt and Yarraman.<\/p>\n<p>Kingaroy Containers For Change manager Christine Beresford held the first pop-up in Nanango last Friday, and the first ones in Blackbutt and Yarraman will run this week.<\/p>\n<p>The new pop-up locations are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nanango <\/strong>&#8211; Nanango Showgrounds (entry via Kimlin Street) &#8211; Mondays and Fridays, 9:00am-noon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Blackbutt<\/strong> &#8211; Hart Street (between the Taromeo Fire Shed and the Showgrounds entrance) &#8211; Tuesdays, 9:00am-11:00am<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Yarraman<\/strong> &#8211; Yarraman Men&#8217;s Shed (Mill Street) &#8211; Wednesdays, 10:00am-noon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Christine told <strong>southburnett.com.au <\/strong>the new pop-ups would operate in the same way as the Cherbourg and Kingaroy depots, ie. no cash would be handed out on the spot.<\/p>\n<p>Residents should bring along their\u00a0Containers For Change scheme IDs and the cash will be deposited into their bank accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Containers For Change accounts can be <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/consumer.containersforchange.com.au\/create-account?scheme=QLD\">created online<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Details about what containers are eligible for the 10c refund are also <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.containersforchange.com.au\/qld\/how-it-works\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available online<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Christine said that depending on the response, the pop-up in Nanango could become a permanent site but this would be assessed after about three months.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are trying to capture what volume of recycling we are currently missing,&#8221; she said,<\/p>\n<p><strong>Christine said she had received some good feedback at the inaugural Blackbutt pop-up, held on Tuesday, with new customers registering to recycle.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And a man who had been travelling to Kilcoy to cash in his containers had found the Blackbutt site much more convenient.<\/p>\n<p>Christine has dreams of opening more pop-ups around the region &#8211; possibly at Kumbia, Proston or Goomeri &#8211; but it was important these first three sites were bedded down.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are trying to establish these ones first,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And if we can purchase more trailers, we might also be able to take them to events.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I know it is going to grow but we have to put in the effort.\u00a0And hopefully, it will create more jobs, too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the meantime, the Kingaroy site is still being kept very busy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Christine said 46,000 items were processed on Monday at the depot on the corner of Kingaroy and Cornish streets.<\/p>\n<p>And it could get even busier.
