Mindless vandals have caused an estimated $6500 damage at two major South Burnett parks.<\/p>\n

Nanango’s Pioneer Park was recently upgraded by the South Burnett Regional Council with funding assistance from the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program and the State Government’s Works For Queensland program.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A 33m long zip line, a new concrete path, turfing, four new shelters and a sound shelter were installed.<\/p>\n

The park\u2019s toilet facilities in Railway Lane were also painted and re-roofed.<\/p>\n

All the works were completed by Wednesday.<\/p>\n

However, the park has since been the subject of vandalism and littering.<\/p>\n

Twenty metres of orange safety bunting were burnt, barbecue doors have been kicked and had rocks thrown at them, stakes and rubbish have been strewn around, graffiti has been sprayed on the skate park ramps and rubbish bins, and the new concrete path permanently marked.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Brett Otto said the estimated cost to repair this damage was $4500.<\/p>\n

In Kingaroy, a\u00a0spate of graffiti vandalism in Apex Park has also prompted Council to change the opening hours of the toilet block.<\/strong><\/p>\n

From last Tuesday, the block is now only open to the public from 6:00am to 6:00pm.<\/p>\n

Mayor Otto said the estimated cost to repair this damage was $2000.<\/p>\n

“Council is working hard to curb vandalism and anti-social behaviour in the South Burnett as a matter of public safety and preservation of environment,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The community is encouraged to report any vandalism or anti-social behaviour to Council or police.”<\/p>\n
