Plans for an upgraded waste management facility at Yarraman have moved to the next stage following the approval of the Development Application for the facility.<\/p>\n

Cr Nancy Sommerfield said this would allow Council to now prepare design and construction documents to get the project ready for tender.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current Yarraman landfill is predicted to reach capacity in the next few years, which is driving the need to upgrade the facility,” Cr Sommerfield said.<\/p>\n

“The upgrade will see the construction of our Region\u2019s first Tier 4 waste management facility.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe new facility will be built on the same site as the existing waste facility, on previously unused land at the front of the lot. It will be designed as a smaller version of the region\u2019s state-of-the-art flagship, the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot everything will be new. The garden area used by members of the community will remain at the new facility, continuing a tradition that is popular with Yarraman residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe facility is designed to allow improved recycling opportunities, reducing the volume of waste that ends up in our landfills.”<\/p>\n

The Toowoomba Regional Council is working towards a target of 90 per cent of waste diverted from landfill through waste avoidance, reuse and recycling by 2050.<\/p>\n
