{"id":301624,"date":"2021-06-30T17:40:40","date_gmt":"2021-06-30T07:40:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=301624"},"modified":"2021-06-30T17:40:40","modified_gmt":"2021-06-30T07:40:40","slug":"gympie-rates-rise-3-2pc-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2021\/06\/30\/gympie-rates-rise-3-2pc-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Gympie Rates Rise 3.2pc"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_235581\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-235581\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-235581\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20190515gympie1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20190515gympie1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20190515gympie1-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20190515gympie1-269x167.jpg 269w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-235581\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gympie Regional Council will move Kilkivan Library to the former Kilkivan Shire Council Chambers this year &#8230; the project was announced when the Council handed down its 2021-22 Budget on Wednesday<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>June 30, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gympie Regional Council ratepayers will face a 3.2 per cent rise in their rates bills after the Council handed down its $157.66 million 2021-22 Budget on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Charges for water and waste collection will also rise marginally over the coming year, while sewerage charges will increase by 3.35 per cent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The changes mean that in general, almost 70 per cent of Gympie Regional Council ratepayers will face an increase of between $25 and $75 a year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, the discount for early rates payments has been halved from 10 per cent to 5 per cent, but this year it will apply to the entire rates notice, including special levies.<\/p>\n<p>Council will maintain its $160 pensioner discount and will make $360,000 available through its community grants program, with $175,000 provided specifically to environmental community groups.<\/p>\n<p>Council will also invest $40.7 million in capital works.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For Goomeri and Kilkivan residents, the most significant projects over the coming year include: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kilkivan Library &#8211; $150,000 to move the library to the Kilkivan office chambers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>KKRT Rail Trail &#8211; $173,352 for trail improvements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Goomeri Hall Of Memory &#8211; $80,000 for electrical system, painting and exterior works<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Goomeri Pool &#8211; $75,000 to replace plant filtration system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Goomeri Water Treatment Plant &#8211; $120,000 to upgrade plant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Goomeri Sewage Treatment Plant &#8211; $159,000 to complete tank repairs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig said Council would not be investing in any major new infrastructure projects during 2021-22.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Instead, Councillors would continue to work on finding cost savings through a &#8220;back-to-basics&#8221; approach.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was hopeful the Budget would return the Council to a $60,000 surplus by the end of the financial year.<\/p>\n<p>Gympie Regional Council&#8217;s 2021-22 Budget can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gympie.qld.gov.au\/documents\/40005057\/40005560\/Budget%202022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>on the GRC&#8217;s website<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gympie Regional Council ratepayers will face a 3.2 per cent increase in their rates bills after the Council handed down its $157.66 million 2021-22 Budget on Wednesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":235581,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[22,3],"tags":[1131,100,168],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
