The latest round of lockdowns in Brisbane and surrounding council areas has had a knock-on effect in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Saint Mary’s Catholic College students have narrowly escaped having their winter school vacation spoiled by COVID-19.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the College’s netball team was due to compete in the statewide QISS Netball Carnival at Nissan Stadium in Nathan.<\/p>\n

St Mary’s has sent teams to this annual event for the past 23 years, and this year players were hoping to excel themselves.<\/p>\n

However, Tuesday’s State Government announcement that a snap three-day lockdown would be imposed on 13 local government areas quickly put paid to the plans.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The netball competition was cancelled at lunchtime on Tuesday, giving the students just a few hours to pack up their gear and get back to the South Burnett ahead of the lockdown deadline of 6:00pm.<\/p>\n

A college spokesperson told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> the students were understandably disappointed by the sudden cancellations, but very thankful they had enough time to board buses and get safely back home before the lockdown came into effect.<\/p>\n

A number of local events have also been cancelled or postponed due to COVID concerns:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • A Cherbourg Community Forum scheduled for July 1 has been postponed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • The Ration Shed Museum at Cherbourg will be closed for the rest of this week<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Cherbourg’s NAIDOC Day celebrations scheduled for July 6 have been postponed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • The Ration Shed Museum’s NAIDOC film screenings on July 6 have been postponed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            \n
          • Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club has cancelled the Come and Try Day which was to be held at Kingaroy Showground on Saturday (July 3).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • Darling Downs Health NAIDOC celebrations scheduled across July 5-9 at Murgon, Cherbourg, Kingaroy, Wondai and Nanango hospitals have been cancelled.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
