{"id":301469,"date":"2021-06-28T21:34:44","date_gmt":"2021-06-28T11:34:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=301469"},"modified":"2021-06-29T22:01:26","modified_gmt":"2021-06-29T12:01:26","slug":"big-crowd-honours-josies-memory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2021\/06\/28\/big-crowd-honours-josies-memory\/","title":{"rendered":"Big Crowd Honours Josie&#8217;s Memory"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_301471\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-301471\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/20210624josie02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" class=\"size-full wp-image-301471\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/20210624josie02.jpg 740w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/20210624josie02-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/20210624josie02-269x167.jpg 269w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/20210624josie02-285x177.jpg 285w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/20210624josie02-340x211.jpg 340w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/20210624josie02-263x163.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-301471\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Guests at the morning tea were treated to an extensive range of delicious hot and cold finger foods, tea and coffee, all prepared by local volunteers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>June 28, 2021 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kumbia Hall was packed last Thursday morning for a morning tea with a difference.<\/p>\n<p>The crowd came to Josie&#8217;s Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for cancer research &#8230; but also to honour the memory of Kumbia&#8217;s unofficial &#8220;mayor&#8221;, Josie McConville, who died in May at the age of 93.<\/p>\n<p>The morning tea was organised by local cancer support group, Birds Of A Feather, which Josie helped found almost two decades ago.<\/p>\n<p>For a modest $10 donation, guests enjoyed a lavish Kumbia morning tea covering everything from sausage rolls to slices, live musical entertainment from members of the Kingaroy Ukesters, and a slideshow of photos outlining highlights of Josie&#8217;s life.<\/p>\n<p>And if they were still in any doubt about Josie&#8217;s extensive contributions to the Kumbia community, they could also read a detailed coverage of her accomplishments in a recent edition of the Kumbia Party Line newsletter, which was distributed on the day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kumbia Party Line editor Steph Stevens told the audience a morning tea to help fundraise for the Queensland Cancer Council had been held at Kumbia Hall for many years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While it was part of the Australia&#8217;s Biggest Morning Tea movement, it had become known locally as &#8220;Josie&#8217;s Morning Tea&#8221; because of the amount of work Josie put into organising the small army of volunteers that made the event possible.<\/p>\n<p>Steph said this unofficial name has now been permanently adopted by Birds Of A Feather to honour Josie&#8217;s memory, and thanked everyone for turning out to the special day.<\/p>\n<p>She also thanked the many volunteers who had laboured in their kitchens to produce the morning&#8217;s treats, or manned the Hall on Thursday to ensure everything ran smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Josie would be very proud of you,&#8221; Steph said. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Birds Of A Feather cancer support group meets every month at Kingaroy RSL and new members are always welcome.
