Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington is urging producers to attend a meeting next Tuesday (June 22) to find out more information about the new cropping regulations which came into effect on June 1.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Ag Network meeting is being co-ordinated by BIEDO and will be held from 1:30pm-3:30pm at the Kingaroy Town Hall Supper Room.<\/p>\n

“I would like to congratulate the many producers who attended the Reef Regulations meeting in Kingaroy in early February and early June for continuing to voice their concerns about these onerous regulations,” Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

“While we have seen some small concessions made by the Department of Environment, the regulations affect every primary producer in the South Burnett and western Gympie regions.<\/p>\n

“If you are seeking further information on these new rules, I would encourage you to\u00a0attend meeting of the South Burnett Ag Network being co-ordinated by BIEDO.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Much of the concern from producers about these regulations stems from the belief that these rules should not apply in our region.<\/p>\n

“This week in Parliament I have asked two Questions on Notice to the Minister for the Environment seeking a waiver of the fees involved, and questing why no baseline water quality or paddock monitoring data is available for our region.<\/p>\n

“At the least, this government needs to waive the permit fees for at least 12 months in our region to give our farmers the chance to meet the standard requirements, or otherwise these regulations will have serious ramifications for the mental health of our producers and future productivity of this area.”<\/p>\n
