Kumbia’s “Birds Of A Feather” cancer fundraising group is determined the memory of the late Josie McConville is kept alive.<\/p>\n

Josie, who died last month aged 93, was an enthusiastic fundraiser for the Cancer Council Queensland as well as being a keen volunteer in most Kumbia groups.<\/p>\n

She was one of the founders of “Birds Of A Feather” – made up of cancer survivors, their friends and family members – which entered a team every year in the South Burnett Relay For Life.<\/p>\n

Josie also hosted an “Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea” cancer fundraising event at Kumbia for more than 25 years.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, she was presented with the Kumbia Local Achiever Award at the South Burnett Regional Council’s Australia Day Awards, recognising her volunteering with the Kumbia Hall Committee, Kumbia Race Club, Kumbia Historical Society and Kumbia Catholic community.<\/p>\n

Sadly, Josie was not well enough to attend but her efforts on behalf of the Kumbia community and beyond were recognised.<\/p>\n

Birds Of A Feather secretary Stephanie Stevens said the group was keeping Josie’s memory alive by continuing to host the “Biggest Morning Tea”.<\/p>\n

This year’s fundraiser will be held next Thursday (June 24) at the Kumbia Memorial Hall Supper Room from 10:00am.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The $10 admission fee includes morning tea, entertainment and a guest speaker.<\/p>\n

Tickets will also be available in a multi-draw raffle, drawn at the event.<\/p>\n

All proceeds will go to the Cancer Council Queensland for cancer research, patient support and cancer education.<\/p>\n
