St Mary\u2019s Catholic College’s annual musical, which premiered at the school’s Maryknoll Centre on Friday night, has received an enthusiastic reaction from parents and teachers.<\/p>\n

This year, the Year 10 drama, music, dance and visual art departments have combined their talents to produce “Annie Jr.”, a 60-minute adaptation of the multi-award winning Broadway musical “Annie”.<\/p>\n

Annie Jr. tells the heart-warming story of a 1930s New York girl who manages to escape a cruel orphanage mistress and is later adopted by billionaire Oliver Warbucks and his secretary Grace Farrell.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The St Mary\u2019s students have infused some high action dancing into the traditional musical aspects of the story, and the visual arts department has complemented this with vibrantly coloured stage sets.<\/p>\n

The show features several musical favourites adapted from the full Broadway production, including “The Sun Will Come Out” and “Maybe”, and all of them are delivered with the exuberance and upbeat good humour St Mary’s audiences have come to expect over many years.<\/p>\n

College principal Carmel O\u2019Brien praised the staff and students for an excellent production.<\/p>\n

“It amazes me that our College has both the depth of talent in the students and the commitment of our staff to put a production this big together,” she said.<\/p>\n

Annie Jr. will have two further performances on Friday and Saturday nights (June 18-19), both starting at 6:00pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tickets are $9.50 for adults, $5.50 for students and pensioners or $24.50 per family, and they can be obtained at the door or booked online<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n
