Moffatdale Ridge didn’t tell anyone they intended to hold their third Opera On The Lawn come rain, hail or shine, but as things turned out, they did anyway.<\/p>\n

The event was run inside (and next to) Moffatdale Ridge’s Barambah Road cellar door on Saturday.<\/p>\n

And despite cold, windy weather that steadily turned into heavy rain as the day wore on, more than 180 guests travelled to the vineyard from all quarters of the South Burnett to eat, drink and listen to operatic favourites performed by the Underground Opera Company.<\/p>\n

The first Opera On The Lawn was held at Moffatdale Ridge in 2010, then again in 2011. But last year, scheduling conflicts with several other events running in the area proved too difficult to overcome so there was no Opera On The Lawn in 2012.<\/p>\n

This year Moffatdale Ridge owners Jason and Sue Kinsella were determined to bring the popular event back for its third outing, and they weren’t prepared to let a bit of bad weather stand in their way.<\/p>\n

When they learned rain was forecast for the day, they made a quick decision to move the event’s sit-down lunch indoors, rather than use a large marquee they’d hired for the occasion.<\/p>\n

Instead, the tent was used to provide covered seating for guests to keep them out of the wind and drizzle.<\/p>\n

Numbers were down on 2011 but only slightly.<\/p>\n

“It was raining very heavily in Brisbane and on the coast all day and we think that might have put off some regulars who normally attend,” Jason said.<\/p>\n

“But we’re very happy with the numbers and as things turned out, they worked out just about perfectly for our wet weather arrangements.”<\/p>\n

Moffatdale Ridge is planning to hold their next Opera On The Lawn in 2014, and may also hold a more informal “Jazz On The Lawn” this spring.<\/p>\n

“Everybody loves jazz and we’re thinking that a very relaxed sort of function might be a lot of fun. But nothing’s set in concrete yet,” Jason said.<\/p>\n
