Kingaroy Red Ants raised an amazing $10,000 for breast cancer research at their annual Pink Day at T.J. O’Neill Oval last Saturday.<\/p>\n

Club president Wayne Frohloff said it had been a huge day, with funds raised through the sponsorship of the A Grade jerseys, raffles, cupcake sales, a jumping castle and a percentage of the gate and canteen takings.<\/p>\n

The Pink Day – dubbed “Playing For a Cure” – featured all-day rugby league from juniors in the morning through to two A Grade games, played under lights on a chilly Kingaroy night.<\/p>\n

The sizeable crowd also enjoyed a “battle of the birds” in Under 15s, Under 16s and Under 17s with the South Burnett Eagles taking on the Highfields Eagles.<\/p>\n

And in Under 18s, the home crowd cheered on the South Burnett in an exciting contest against Toowoomba Brothers.<\/p>\n

Hannah Frohloff and Veronica May were also volunteering on the day to raise funds for breast cancer research<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Rugby league returns to Murgon this Saturday with junior games, two A Grade games and an Over 35s mini-carnival (see Game Times, below) which should attract some old war horses back to the paddock.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Grade<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Wondai put on a strong performance against the home side but couldn’t topple the Pink Ants<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The first A Grade game played on Saturday night was between the Kingaroy “Pink Ants” and the Wondai Wolves.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At half-time, Kingaroy was ahead 22-6 with Alex Georgetown scoring Wondai’s solitary try and conversion.<\/p>\n

The Wolves came back stronger after the break but it wasn’t enough, with Kingaroy running away with a 40-28 victory.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy try scorers included Ashley Smallwood (2), Mitchell Case, Luke Hedges, Connor Sullivan and Corey Cross. Luke Hedges kicked six goals.<\/p>\n

For Wondai, tries were scored by Alex Georgetown, Sonny Weazel, Anthony Dynevor, Courtney Sandow and Steven Langton Watcho. Alex Georgetown kicked four conversions.<\/p>\n

In the second A Grade game, Nanango returned to the winners’ circle, defeating the Murgon Mustangs 56-12.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stags’ tries were scored by Patrick Gentry (3), Blake Harvey (2), Robert Ryan (2), Rhyse Simpson, Thomas Springate, Harley Farrar and Jackson Mladenovic. Rhyse Simpson kicked six goals.<\/p>\n

For Murgon, tries were scored by Lloyd Saltner and Elwyn Fewquandie. Daron Saltner-Bligh and Edward Aubrey kicked a goal apiece.<\/p>\n

In the first Under 14s game, Murgon 28 defeated Nanango.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Murgon try scorers included Darryl Gyemore, Ziggy Pidgeon, Dustin Ramke and Andrew Coutts. Goals were kicked by Zachary Harris (2), Will Webber and Darryl Gyemore.<\/p>\n

In the second Under 14s game, Kingaroy 38 defeated Chinchilla.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kingaroy try scorers were Liam Irwin, Brayden Watcho-Page, Jamie Searle, Harrison Braithwaite, Rory Crumpton, Tommy Beil and Tom Larsen. Lawson Braithwaite kicked five goals.<\/p>\n

South Burnett try scorers were Casey Jones (2), Chris Simpson (2), Billy Makie (2), James Jacobs and Tom Currin.<\/p>\n

Tom Currin and Billy Makie each kicked one goal.<\/p>\n

Highfields’ tries were scored by Braydon Hobson, Mark Jensen and Kain McDougall.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Eagles U16s proved too strong for Highfields in their clash, winning 20-6 after leading 6-0 at half-time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Burnett try scorers were Joe Meikle (2), Michael Fish and Malaky Swan. Jayden Smallwood kicked two goals.<\/p>\n

The Highfields’ try was scored by Regan Anderson and converted by Brady Dodd.<\/p>\n

South Burnett U17 girls played a nine-a-side game against Highfields on a reduced-size field.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Highfields came out on top 44-10.<\/p>\n

South Burnett tries were scored by Aquila Malone and Samantha Cobbo. Keturah Murray kicked one goal.<\/p>\n

Sienna Norris starred for Highfields, kicking six conversions and one try.<\/p>\n

Other Highfields try scorers were Katelyn Collie (2), Reyna Core (2), Darcey Patterson, Maya Jackson and Mackenzie Zellar.<\/p>\n

In Under 18s, the South Burnett Eagles took on Toowoomba Brothers in an exciting game, with the lead see-sawing in the first half.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lloyd Langton opened the scoring for the South Burnett, converting his own try and then minutes later grabbed an intercept and ran the length of the field to score again.<\/p>\n

But Brothers hit back almost immediately, and locked the scores at 10-all at the mid-point of the half.<\/p>\n

Langton broke the impasse with another try – which he converted – to put South Burnett ahead again.<\/p>\n

Another converted Brothers’ try – this time by fullback Tuy Schieb – then locked the scores again at 16-all.<\/p>\n

Angus Kelly then scored four minutes later, and Toowoomba took the lead, 20-16.<\/p>\n

Two minutes before half-time Lennox Bligh levelled the scores again at 20-all, with Langton’s conversion taking the home side into the break with a nose ahead, 22-20.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Eagles dominated after the break, especially when Highfields lost a player to the bin for 10 minutes and Langton kicked the penalty goal.<\/p>\n

But Highfields managed a consolation try late in the game to take the final score to 40-26.<\/p>\n

Eagles tries were scored by Lloyd Langton (3), Lennox Bligh (2), Killian Klease and Xealand Eustace. Lloyd Langton kicked five conversions and one penalty goal.<\/p>\n

Brothers’ try scorers were Kerion Parravicini, Tuy Schieb, Angus Kelly, Dillon McFeeters and Geoff Harvey. Wapu Elara kicked three goals.<\/p>\n
