The South Burnett Saints’ dream start to their AFL Darling Downs debut year came back to earth with a thud on Saturday when they came up against last year’s preliminary finalists, Coolaroo Roos, at Gold Park in Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

It was the Roos’ first match for the year as they had the bye in Round 1.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the game, Coolaroo coach Nick Barker had indicated he would be wary of the South Burnett newcomers – especially after their Round 1 win – but in the end the Roos had nothing to fear.<\/p>\n

They thumped the Saints 27.21 (183) to 2.2 (14).<\/p>\n

South Burnett’s only goal kickers were Nathan Trace and Kyall Shepherd. However Matthew Eckermann, Joshua Miller, Scott Fitzpatrick and Jordan Presnell also tried hard against a team which was one of the competition heavyweights in 2012.<\/p>\n

The Saints’ next match should be a lot easier, and to make it even more special, it will be the team’s first home game.<\/p>\n

They’ll be playing 2012 cellar dwellers, the Goondiwindi Hawks, at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
