Applications are now open for the annual Nuffield Australia scholarships that have proven a gamechanger in the past for so many Australian farmers.<\/p>\n

The scholarships let producers visit leading and innovative businesses around the world, find ideas and forge connections that can improve value chains.<\/p>\n

Each scholarship is valued at $30,000 and Nuffield Australia plans to award up to 20 this year.<\/p>\n

However, the scheme organisers recognise the difficulties and uncertainties that pandemic travel bans have created, so can re-schedule the travel component, if necessary.<\/p>\n

Nuffield Australia CEO Jodie Redcliffe says bringing home the new best practices, ideas and resources helps Australian agriculture navigate the turbulent global marketplace and seize opportunities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBuilding capacity in agriculture, horticulture and fishing is more important as ever, as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and trade tensions,\u201d Jodie said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere has never been a better time to research how the world has changed, and how agricultural sectors can adapt to complex food supply chains, trade restrictions and changing consumer behaviour going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nuffield Scholarships are open to farmers, fishers and those in associated industries aged between 28-45, and no tertiary education qualifications are required.<\/p>\n

Each scholar receives a $30,000 bursary to spend on 14 weeks of travel over 18 months to study a topic important to the industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jodie says this year\u2019s program has been especially tailored to allow recipients to navigate the global uncertainty and make the most of being part of the world\u2019s most influential agricultural network.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re offering greater access to online learning than ever before, including virtual connections to the global alumni network \u2013 485-strong in Australia and 1850 worldwide \u2013 as well as other agribusiness leaders,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf COVID-19 travel restrictions continue we will reschedule or roll over to extended timelines for the travel component. We are committed to delivering the same high-quality and valued program as we have for the past 70 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Applications close on August 6<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed during September and October. Successful recipients of the 2022 Nuffield Scholarships will be awarded at the Nuffield Australia National Conference to in Tamworth NSW on October 11.<\/p>\n
