Therese Andrea comes back to Kingaroy to help keep the Eisteddfod going<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The annual Kingaroy Eisteddfod relies on volunteers – and one of the keenest has to be Brisbane resident Therese Andrea.<\/p>\n

Therese is the daughter of the late Laurie Case, the well-loved former Kingaroy State High School music teacher who died in 2012 after a long illness.<\/p>\n

Laurie, a former army bandmaster, began the highly successful South Burnett instrumental music program in 1987, working with ensembles in schools stretching from Yarraman to Murgon.<\/p>\n

The pupils he inspired were a fixture at the annual Kingaroy Eisteddfod.<\/p>\n

In 2019, Therese heard the Eisteddfod was struggling to find enough volunteers.<\/p>\n

“I thought that’s no good!,” she told southburnett.com.au<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Eisteddfod was an integral part of my memories of growing up in Kingaroy. It would be a terrible shame if it did not continue.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

So Therese, who remembers competing as a clarinet soloist and in the Kingaroy State High School bands in the competition, decided she would lend a hand.<\/p>\n

Therese had also continued her father’s internationally renown baton business, “Case Batons”, made from hardwood timbers and now also epoxy resins.<\/p>\n

Laurie began crafting his batons while working as a music teacher at Kingaroy State High School.<\/p>\n

Top conductors from some of the world’s leading orchestras still wield Case batons.<\/p>\n
