Old home movies shot between 1955 and the 1970s attracted a large crowd to the Proston Community Hall on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n

The movie night\u00a0featured 8mm footage of life shot in and around Proston put together by Peter Keys.<\/p>\n

The hall was packed for the film night, with residents also enjoying a sausage sizzle outside.<\/p>\n

The night was organised by local residents Kathy Crane, Nick Blanch and Linda Rea as a fundraiser\u00a0for\u00a0the Proston Heritage Association.<\/p>\n

The group is gathering together information and stories for Proston’s centenary in 2023.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Heritage Association is working towards celebrating the centenary of the coming of the railway to Proston,” Kathy said.<\/p>\n

“It will\u00a0be held from September 30 to October 2 in 2023.<\/p>\n

“We are very excited about this, especially after the response on the weekend.”<\/p>\n

She said many former Proston residents had come back to town see the movies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are wanting to have a book ready for the centenary filled with people’s own stories of Proston.<\/p>\n

“It could be about anything,\u00a0from a paragraph to page and a half or so.<\/p>\n

“We need these by the end of this year (December).<\/p>\n

“On Saturday we had volunteers taking down the stories of some people and we plan to do another of these days.”<\/p>\n

People who missed out on attending the movie night can buy a copy of the movie on a USB stick for $20, plus $5 postage.<\/p>\n
