Proston P-10’s Limousin steer ‘Sapphire’ – one of two steers donated to the school by Smithfield Cattle Co last year – has won an impressive award at Beef 21 in Rockhampton.<\/p>\n

Led by Proston student Jessica Jackson, the 473kg ‘Sapphire’ took out the prestigious Ray White Rural Junior Led Steer competition against more than 60 entries from across the State.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, ‘Sapphire’ won his class while ‘Smithfield’s Showtime’\u00a0 finished second out of a class of 30.<\/p>\n

‘Sapphire’ also won a Grand Champion ribbon at the recent Nanango Show.<\/p>\n

Smithfield \u2013 which operates a large feedlot just outside Proston \u2013 bought the two Limousin steers at a Blue Ribbon sale in Pittsworth and donated them to the school.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Smithfield\u2019s Showtime\u2019, a black steer, was purchased from Jen-Daview Limousins in Kingaroy for $4000; while \u2018Sapphire\u2019, an apricot-coloured steer, was bought from Cathy Yarnold at Kingsthorpe for $3600.<\/p>\n

The Proston P-10 team now plans to enter the steers in the hoof and hook competition at the Brisbane Ekka in August.<\/p>\n
