The Kingaroy Heritage Museum in Haly Street has unveiled a new exhibition of items of military interest timed to coincide with Anzac Day.<\/p>\n

The display is a collaborative effort with the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL sub-branch.<\/p>\n

Items include two mini-dioramas featuring a Churchill tank and an armed personnel carrier.<\/p>\n

A highlight is two World War II rifle barrels recovered in recent years from the Kokoda Trail in New Guinea.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL sub-branch president Don Davey said the exact identification of the weapons had not yet been proven but they were believed to be Japanese and were possible sniper rifles.<\/p>\n

The display also includes historic photos and other items usually stored at the sub-branch headquarters at the Kingaroy RSL Club.<\/p>\n

Mr Davey said the display was an opportunity to show the items to people who would not normally get to see them, and to help keep the memories going.<\/p>\n

The display will run throughout April.<\/p>\n

The museum plans another display, this time with from the Vietnam era, during August; and another during November to co-incide with Remembrance Day.<\/p>\n

Entry into the Kingaroy Heritage Museum is free, and it is open daily.<\/p>\n

UPDATE April 15:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nanango RSL Sub-Branch also has put together a special display of militaria – including several period uniforms – to mark Anzac Day. The display can be see at the Winds Of Change art gallery in George Street, Nanango.<\/p>\n
