South Burnett Relay For Life patron Carl Rackemann couldn&#8217;t hide his excitement at the Mayor&#8217;s Community Charity Breakfast on Friday morning which officially launched this year&#8217;s fundraising campaign.<\/p>\n<p>And Carl had more exciting news: Dinner With The Captains is back, too!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_298234\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-298234\" style=\"width: 161px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/allanlanger.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-298234\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/allanlanger.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"161\" height=\"219\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-298234\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Allan Langer &#8230; coming to Kingaroy for Dinner With The Captains<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>This year&#8217;s sporting guests at the Captains Dinner will be:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rugby league superstar <strong>Allan &#8220;Alfie&#8221; Langer AM<\/strong>, who played almost 40 games for Queensland as well as more than 25 for Australia and captained the Broncos to their first NRL premiership in 1992.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Olympic gold medal beach volleyballer <strong>Natalie Cook OAM<\/strong> who became the first Australian woman to compete at five Olympic Games.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Kingaroy&#8217;s own <strong>Kelvin Kerkow OAM<\/strong> who won a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in lawn bowls as well as multiple golds in international lawn and indoors bowls championships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Dinner With The Captains will be held on July 31 at Kingaroy Town Hall, with a maximum of 344 tickets available (43 tables of eight).<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $100 per head and can be booked by phoning CROW-FM on (07) 4169-0700.<\/p>\n<p>But did Relay For Life ever really go away?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Committee chair Rowena Dionysius told the breakfast that despite COVID stopping the walk going ahead last year, fundraising still continued\u00a0 &#8230; and $60,000 was raised.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She has fingers crossed that thus year&#8217;s effort can again break the $100,000 mark.<\/p>\n<p>However, there will be some COVID-enforced changes to the actual Relay this year: it will not run overnight but will probably start at either 11am or noon and continue until 8:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>Registrations can be <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/secure.fundraising.cancer.org.au\/site\/TR\/RelayforLife\/CCQLD?fr_id=6525&amp;pg=entry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made online<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>South Burnett councillor Kathy Duff compered the breakfast at Kingaroy RSL Club\u00a0and quizzed the special guest speaker, former cricketer and two-time Australian Survivor star Lee Carseldine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Topics varied from Lee&#8217;s double Masters degree to his naked run on Survivor.<\/p>\n<p>However, Lee also spoke passionately about the &#8220;Towel Challenge&#8221;, a fundraiser for the Stroke Foundation which arose out of his involvement on Australian Survivor All-Stars and the tragedy of losing his mother to a major stroke.<\/p>\n<p>Lee&#8217;s currently working on a new calendar for the Towel Challenge, which will feature multiple celebrities suitably disrobed and entowelled.
