Kingaroy LAC president John Box<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>April 29, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A special morning tea was held at Kingaroy&#8217;s ambulance station on Thursday morning to farewell long-serving paramedic David Bruce.<\/p>\n<p>David retired last year from the QAS and is moving with his wife Liz to Townsville this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>He was presented with a National Medal, recognising\u00a015 years of diligent service; and a Long Service Medal, recognising 10 years service.<\/p>\n<p>Former Officer-in-Charge of Kingaroy QAS, Nolan &#8220;Jonesy&#8221; Jones (now OIC at Proston QAS), presented the medals to his long-term friend.<\/p>\n<p>The men first met in NSW while both were working as paramedics in the south-western Sydney area.<\/p>\n<p>David began his ambulance career in Scotland, where he was one of the first officers trained to be a paramedic.<\/p>\n<p>David and Liz emigrated to Sydney in 1995 where he spent another 10 years as an ambo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>After Nolan shifted to Kingaroy, he suggested his friend and his wife come to Queensland, too &#8230; and the rest his history.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>David spent 15 years working at the Kingaroy QAS.<\/p>\n<p>Many local residents would remember him as the patient transport officer with the Scottish brogue.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, David was presented with a Queensland Star Care award by then-Police and Community Safety Minister Jack Dempsey in a ceremony at the Kedron Park Emergency Services Facility in Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p>QAS Commissioner Russell Bowles congratulated David who was named Patient Transport Officer of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid through his impeccable work ethic and personalised patient care, punctuality and efficiency enables patients to arrive safely and on time, despite the distance to their appointments,\u201d Mr Bowles said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid ensures that his knowledge of his patient\u2019s condition and current medical status prior to departure is comprehensive, to ensure patients receive the best ongoing care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis personal concern for all his patients enables him to excel in the provision of care which enhances the welfare and safety of patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jonesy&#8221; repeated the praise on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thank you for your service,&#8221; Nolan said. &#8220;Scotland, NSW and now, second presentation on Thursday morning.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He said there were three Kingaroy LAC members who had served 10 years with the volunteer committee:\u00a0Sharon Leach, Debbie Jackson and Kendall Siddans.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, only Kendall could be present to receive his Certificate of Appreciation and badge for his service.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_44670\"
