Vincent Watson … eager to improve his skills<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Interviews began today at Nurunderi TAFE College at Cherbourg today to find 20 young would-be video journalists to take part in a unique training course.<\/p>\n

One of the first people to express an interest in the course was Vincent Watson, 19, who is currently enrolled in the Literacy and Numeracy Program at the college.<\/p>\n

The Cherbourg MoJo (“mobile journalist”) project will train young people to research, write, shoot, edit and upload short video films.<\/p>\n

The program also has a serious side .. to help make literacy and numeracy training fun for people who need these basic skills to gain employment.<\/p>\n

Vincent currently spends two days a week at TAFE but if he signs up to the MoJo project this will increase to full-time.<\/p>\n

He’s ready to try something new to help improve his skills.<\/p>\n

“I just want an education so I can join the army,” he said.<\/p>\n

The short films that the MoJos will make can be on any subject that interests them: family, friends, culture, history …. even football.<\/p>\n

The Cherbourg MoJo project will be run by Ivo Burum, CEO of Burum Media and a former executive producer at both Channel 9 and the ABC.<\/p>\n

It is being funded through a Federal Government program. Participants must be aged 15-19.<\/p>\n
