South Burnett Regional Council CEO Mark Pitt … invited to address Parliamentary Committee<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

South Burnett Regional Council CEO Mark Pitt has been invited by State MPs to expand on a submission made by Council as part of a review of the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).<\/p>\n

Mr Pitt has been invited to address a public hearing of the Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee in Brisbane on March 26.<\/p>\n

The SBRC made a submission last July to the five-year review of the CCC’s activities.<\/p>\n

In it, Mr Pitt raised several issues about the way councils and the CCC interact.<\/p>\n

These included the fact councils have limited resources to undertake investigations, the cost of hiring external investigators, the lengthy timeframes involved in getting a result and an apparent lessening of training offered to council staff to prevent issues occurring in the first place.<\/p>\n

Mr Pitt told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> he was initially surprised to have been invited to Brisbane to discuss the SBRC submission but pleased to have the opportunity.<\/p>\n

Other people addressing the public hearing on March 26 include Deputy Police Commissioner Doug Smith, Independent Assessor Kathleen Florian and Queensland Law Society president Elizabeth Shearer as well as representatives from the CCC.<\/p>\n

The Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee is monitoring and reviewing the performance of the CCC as required by law and must report back to State Parliament by June 30.<\/p>\n

The review is examining the CCC\u2019s performance over the past five years and is considering its jurisdiction, responsibilities, functions and powers.<\/p>\n

Submissions to the inquiry closed in August last year.<\/p>\n
