Boondooma Homestead has been the lucky recipient of grant under the latest round of funding from the RACQ Foundation.<\/p>\n

RACQ Foundation spokesperson Lucinda Ross said funding from the Foundation had been historically only for community groups impacted by natural disasters, but last year it made a special exemption and extended the funding to help groups affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cLocal groups are the backbone of Queensland communities and, for many, 2020 was a particularly tough year,\u201d Ms Ross said.<\/p>\n

Ms Ross said the water supply at Boondooma Homestead had been a major issue for many years and the grant had allowed the Boondooma Museum and Heritage Association to install a bore.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoondooma Homestead is a historic, heritage listed site and maintains heritage gardens, grapevines dating back to 1853 and a citrus grove,” Boondooma Museum and Heritage Association secretary Judy Brandt said.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s been so difficult to maintain the gardens of late.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cA bore was drilled but the location is quite a distance from the power supply so it was necessary to install a solar system for the pump.<\/p>\n

\u201cRACQ Foundation has made it possible by supplying the pump and the solar system. This supply of water means not only the gardens are flourishing but it will be an asset to the Boondooma Community in the case of bushfires.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout this wonderful support by RACQ Foundation, communities such as Boondooma would continue to suffer during drought years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other groups to receive funding during this round include the Kilkivan Men\u2019s Shed, South Burnett Community Orchestra, Gympie and District Riding for the Disabled and Kandanga Tennis Club.<\/p>\n
