There has been an increase in dog attacks reported to the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

A Council spokesperson said the dogs had escaped homes which did not have proper fencing and were roaming the community.<\/p>\n

“South Burnett Regional Council advises all dog owners of their responsibilities to contain your dogs in adequately fenced enclosures on their property for the safety of the community,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Dog attacks are traumatic and can have lasting effects on the physical and mental health of the victims and their families.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It may also result in your dog being declared dangerous or menacing and will have to abide by special conditions listed in the legislation.<\/p>\n

“Dog owners have a duty of care for the safety of the community within the vicinity of their dogs and to anyone lawfully entering your property, such as electricity meter readers.”<\/p>\n

At Council’s Community Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday, Councillors were told there had been 80 animal attacks in the region since July 1 last year.<\/p>\n
