March 2, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kingaroy State High School captain Abbie Moseling will be representing Kingaroy in the Zone Final of the Lions Youth Of The Year contest.<\/p>\n

Abbie came out on top against nine other competitors in the local round of the annual competition, held at the Commercial Hotel in Kingaroy last week.<\/p>\n

The competitors were all students at Kingaroy State High School, and were\u00a0accompanied by Mr Paul Hutton, English Head of Department.<\/p>\n

The students were interviewed by a panel of three independent judges: former South Burnett mayor Keith Campbell, NAB branch manager Suzanne Koy and Coopers Gap Wind Farm site manager Liz Beavis.<\/p>\n

They were quizzed in regard to their academic and sporting achievements as well as their community involvement and general knowledge.<\/p>\n

They then took part in a public speaking event where they had to speak to two impromptu questions as well as give a five-minute prepared speech on a topic of their choice.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students participating were Joey Reeve, Jessie Bond, Ben Weier, Juliana Evangelista, Isaac Kelly, Sophie O\u2019Connor, Kelleeann Slade, Abbie Moseling, Deanna-lee Tearle and Josee Currin.<\/p>\n

The standard was extremely high from all entrants, and the judges said they had a really tough time splitting them.<\/p>\n

The winner of the public speaking section was Juliana Evangelista, who spoke about racism.<\/p>\n

The overall winner of the contest was Abbie Moseling who will now go on to compete at the Zone Final in Gympie on March 20.<\/p>\n
