A man has been airlifted to hospital with critical burns following a gas explosion and fire at a house in Murgon on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the brick veneer house on the corner of Tiernan Terrace and Goodchild Drive at 1:56pm.<\/p>\n

Five fire crews found the home well-involved in flames upon their arrival.<\/p>\n

Shattered window glass from the explosion was spread across the road and on to the roofs of houses on the other side of the street.<\/p>\n

A police spokesperson said neighbours pulled the injured man – believed to be aged in his 60s – out of the burning building.<\/p>\n

QAS paramedics assisted him at the scene before transporting him by ambulance to the nearby Murgon Hospital.<\/p>\n

An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter then airlifted the man, who suffered extensive burns, to the Royal Brisbane Hospital.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Glass shards could be found almost 100 metres from the blast, but fortunately no one else was injured by the explosion.<\/p>\n

Firefighters had the fire out by about 2:15pm but continued dampening down hot spots for another 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

A fire investigator was later called to the scene.<\/p>\n

A QFES spokesperson said initial investigations suggested the blast was linked to a gas heater.<\/p>\n
