Cyclists using the Nanango link between the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail and the South Burnett Rail Trail now have no excuse not to rest up and enjoy a break in Nanango.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council recently installed three sets of bike racks where cyclists can chain up their bikes in safety while they head off to get a coffee or snack.<\/p>\n

There are four slots on the northern side of Drayton Street, three on the southern side and three near the Bendigo Bank corner.<\/p>\n

Cr Roz Frohloff said the steel racks had been made by local company G3 Engineering in collaboration with Council.<\/p>\n

They have been designed to blend in to the design of the Nanango streetscape, and when not in use can double as a bench for pedestrians.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Local cyclists, rail trail users and the Nanango Tourism and Development Association (NaTDA) have been lobbying for the installation of bicycle racks in Nanango for about two years.<\/p>\n

Cr Frohloff said the original plan had been to build the racks out of solid timber, but this had proven to be too expensive.<\/p>\n

The breakthrough came when Council accessed a Works For Queensland grant for the project and it was decided to approach G3 Engineering.<\/p>\n

“The racks will encourage people to come into town. They have been deliberately located near the food outlets,” NaTDA member and keen cyclist David Kenny said.<\/p>\n

Members of the Nanango Cycling Club joined Cr Frohloff and Mr Kenny to inspect the new racks on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
