One of the South Burnett’s most iconic picnic race meetings will be off and running in a little over five weeks … the 91st annual Burrandowan Picnic Races on Saturday, May 11.<\/p>\n

The Burrandowan race track is located 60 km west of Kingaroy, and its bush backdrop is a perfect contrast to the colourful high fashions and trained horses that parade on the day, while picnicers and partygoers dot the trackside and campers fill the car park.<\/p>\n

Burrandowan has its origins with the soldier settlers who colonised the district early last century and traditions run deep. Many founding families are still represented on the voluntary race club committee today.<\/p>\n

“We are really proud of the history we have here and the race day is a special one for our community,” race club president Brendan McCormack explained.<\/p>\n

“We work throughout the year to ensure the day is a fabulous one for everyone who comes along, and the committee really enjoy seeing people have a terrific time.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a day to spend with friends and family, and many people come back year after year because they know they’ll find the same great atmosphere and bush hospitality here.”<\/p>\n

A shuttle bus will be running from Kingaroy on race day, but guests are welcome to bring their own swag and sleep the night at the race track if they wish.<\/p>\n

Racing kicks off at 1:00pm on Saturday, but the local tip is to be there well before to get your hat on, set up your picnic and take in the race track sights.<\/p>\n

Community groups provide trackside food all day, there is a pit-fired barbeque at night, a fully licensed bar and plenty of prizes to be won in the Fashions on the Field competition.<\/p>\n
