Plans for an upgraded waste management facility at Yarraman have moved to the next stage following lodgement of the Development Application for the facility.<\/p>\n

Cr Nancy Sommerfield said feedback from residents had enabled Toowoomba Regional Council to make changes to the design to better suit the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recently undertook community consultation regarding upgrading the facility. The feedback we received was extremely positive and provided better insight into the specific needs of the community,\u201d Cr Sommerfield said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were a couple of suggestions raised by residents and these have now been taken into consideration as part of the updated plans.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Development Application has been lodged. When the plans are approved, we\u2019ll prepare the \u2018design and construct\u2019 documents to get the project ready for tender by the middle of this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current Yarraman landfill is predicted to run out of space in the next few years, which is driving the need to upgrade the facility.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The upgrade will see the construction of our region\u2019s first Tier 4 waste management facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new facility will be built on the site of the existing landfill and designed as a smaller version of the region\u2019s state-of-the-art flagship, the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot everything will be new. The garden area used by members of the community will remain at the new facility, continuing a tradition that is popular with Yarraman residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe facility is designed to allow improved recycling opportunities, reducing the volume of waste that ends up in our landfills.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn accordance with the recently adopted Waste Management Strategy 2021, Council is working towards a target of 90 per cent of waste diverted from landfill through waste avoidance, reuse and recycling by 2050.\u201d<\/p>\n
