Toowoomba businessman Clive Berghofer has launched a petition opposing the proposed Wellcamp quarantine facility.<\/p>\n

The proposal, put forward by Wagner Corporation in January, is reportedly under consideration by both the State and Federal governments.<\/p>\n

If it goes ahead, the facility could house returning travellers for 14 days within minutes of the Wellcamp international airport.<\/p>\n

Mr Berghofer’s E-petition to State Parliament, posted on Thursday, reads:<\/p>\n

Queensland residents draw to the attention of the House the proposal to build a quarantine facility at the privately owned Wellcamp Airport. It is not reasonable to move a broken system into a regional area with limited health resources and no ability to assure locals that a biosecurity breach will not occur.<\/em><\/p>\n

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to not move the quarantine system to the privately owned Wellcamp Airport near Toowoomba.<\/em><\/p>\n

The well-known\u00a0philanthropist and former Toowoomba Mayor told local media last week he feared the consequences for Toowoomba if something went wrong at the proposed quarantine facility.<\/p>\n
