A 27-year-old man has been charged with assaulting police and a string of other counts after an overnight siege in Kingaroy on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant David Tierney, said police were called to a residence in Fitzroy Street, Kingaroy, at 11:30pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n

When officers arrived, the man allegedly threatened them with a home-made mace.<\/p>\n

The man then locked himself inside his house.<\/p>\n

Police attempted to negotiate with the man to come out of the house during the night after cordoning off the residence.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Police vehicles were parked across either end of the Fitzroy Street block.<\/p>\n

About 5:30am on Sunday, the man left the house and was taken into custody.<\/p>\n

He was later taken to Kingaroy Hospital.<\/p>\n

Snr Sgt Tierney said that when police attempted to return him to the watchhouse, the man became abusive and struggled violently with officers at the hospital.<\/p>\n

One police officer suffered cuts and abrasions.<\/p>\n

The man was due to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday charged with five counts of serious assault of police while armed; serious assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, conduct causing a public nuisance, two counts of possessing a drug utensil, and breaching a domestic violence order.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
