The members of the Murgon’s Men’s Shed have been very busy since they first got together at their shed in Macalister Street in 2014.<\/p>\n

They have restored wagons, tractors, a mail coach and even a LandRover over recent years but until recently all their hard work was hidden away, stored where no one could admire it.<\/p>\n

That has all changed now with the official opening of the group’s new Restoration Shed.<\/p>\n

President David Mollenhauer said the project had been made possible by a $3000 donation from the Murgon Services Club and $500 from the Commonwealth Bank.<\/p>\n

The rest of the $7500 total cost came from the Men’s Shed members themselves – and they also supplied the labour to put the shed together.<\/p>\n

One side of the shed is open, behind a grill, so the restored items can be seen from the street.<\/p>\n

“When we are open, people are also welcome to come on in and have a look,” David said.<\/p>\n

David said the group’s next plans involved moving the 101-year-old passenger carriage and goods carriage which are currently being restored to a more secure location on the other side of the property.<\/p>\n

They were also aiming to get a steam engine from Rosewood to add to the collection …<\/p>\n

There are about 60 members in the group.<\/p>\n

The Men’s Shed is open on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7:00am to noon; and on Wednesdays from 7:00am to 3:00pm.<\/p>\n

The group’s new Restoration Shed was officially opened on Thursday with guests from Murgon Services Club and the South Burnett Regional Council in attendance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Men’s Shed has become such an important part of this community,” South Burnett Mayor Brett Otto said.<\/p>\n

“This tremendous facility is an example of what can be done.<\/p>\n

“There’s no government funding in this. It just goes to show what can be done when the community works together.”<\/p>\n

\u00a0Footnote: Mayor Otto also shared some good news for Murgon … Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey AC will be officially opening the Murgon Show on March 20.<\/em><\/p>\n
