A new monthly market is set to enliven Nanango’s CBD within a few weeks.<\/p>\n

The aim of the market – to be held on the third Sunday of every month – is to bring some life and colour to the centre of town at a time when it is usually deserted, as well as provide local residents and visitors with a fun, new shopping experience.<\/p>\n

The markets are the brainchild of Sassy Mama boutique owner Sharon Johnson and are being sponsored by the Nanango Tourism and Development Association (NaTDA).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sharon said the idea of CBD markets came to her in February last year when NaTDA helped organise a sidewalk sale in Drayton Street to raise funds for bushfire victims in Cobargo.<\/p>\n

Despite some rain on the day, the event was a great success, helping to raise more than $8200 for Cobargo’s fire victims.<\/p>\n

Sharon said she wanted to bring more activity to Nanango’s CBD which was often a ghost town from midday Saturday through to Monday morning.<\/p>\n

“This is a real pity because weekends are the time when most tourists and visitors come to our region,” Sharon said.<\/p>\n

The first Nanango Sunday Sidewalk Sale will run from 7:00am to about 1:00pm on Sunday, March 21, along the footpaths in Drayton, Henry and Fitzroy streets. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The markets will not sell fresh fruit and vegetables or secondhand clothing or good, to avoid interfering with the businesses of CBD traders.<\/p>\n

Instead, Sharon is hoping that crafts people and artisans will set up shop – and at just $5 for two tables worth of space, they can have plenty of room to display their wares.<\/p>\n

The markets will also offer two sausage sizzle spaces free of charge to local community groups so they can use the event for fundraising.<\/p>\n

And while the new markets will initially run on the third Sunday of each month, they could be held more often if there is sufficient demand.<\/p>\n
