Eight Cherbourg parents were bursting with enthusiasm last week after they completed a Positive Parenting Program led by facilitator Michell Forster.<\/p>\n

The “deadly eight” were animated as they acted out scenarios and discussed strategies and skills to handle situations everyone relates to.<\/p>\n

“That was the best group I\u2019ve ever done anywhere,” Ms Forster said of the two-day workshop for parents and carers of teenagers.<\/p>\n

“We role-played angry and positive family environments, talked about what could go wrong when we put strategies in place, and then brainstormed solutions.<\/p>\n

“It helps people bring out the skills they\u2019ve buried inside to become self-managed, disciplined and sustainable with their families\u2019 behaviours.<\/p>\n

“We also left with a feeling we could lean on each other for future support and focus.”<\/p>\n

The group has now plan to take part in a May 13-14 (Triple P) Positive Parenting Program for people who have children aged 0-12.<\/p>\n

Tessa Fisher said she was impressed by last week\u2019s workshop and looked forward to making positive changes.<\/p>\n

“Not big ones straight away, but rewarding my children for good behaviour will be a start,” Ms Fisher said.<\/p>\n

Agnes Dynevor and husband Shawn Fisher will be more patient with their children.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ll now take time to listen and understand how they feel,” Ms Dynevor said.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ll talk them through their problems.”<\/p>\n

People wanting to take part in the next Triple P workshop for 0-12 year olds at the Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council training rooms can phone (07) 4168-2330 or send an email<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019d love to have another deadly group,” Ms Forster said.<\/p>\n

“This one definitely set the benchmark and I\u2019ll be interested to see how it\u2019s made a happy difference in their lives.<\/p>\n

“Having a happy family is the greatest success anybody could wish for.”<\/p>\n
