Nominations are now open for the 2021 Queensland Reconciliation Awards, where Queenslanders are being encouraged to recognise outstanding efforts to foster a more inclusive Queensland on the road to reconciliation.<\/p>\n

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queensland businesses, community organisations, schools and government entities whose work acknowledges the State\u2019s rich histories of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples can now be nominated.<\/p>\n

This year there are five categories available for nomination: business, community, education, health and well-being, and partnership.<\/p>\n

The health and well-being category is new in 2021, introduced to highlight the outstanding work accomplished across Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Queensland Reconciliation Awards helps to recognise the inspiring initiatives and partnerships which go above and beyond their core business to support reconciliation and make a tangible difference in the lives of Queenslanders,\u201d the Premier said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year, we\u2019re overwhelmed by the diversity of the nominations we receive and we\u2019re inspired by the commitment by businesses, community groups and organisations to create innovative pathways to change.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2020, awards recipients included Eidsvold P-12 State School, who are championing the teaching of Wakka Wakka language, and Hutchinson Builders, who are opening up economic opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through their Statim Yaga (Start Work) program.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rugby league legend Johnathan Thurston is the 2021 Queensland Reconciliation Awards Ambassador.<\/p>\n

“Building a pathway to true reconciliation requires all Queenslanders to come\u00a0together and work towards a shared, respectful future,” Johnathan said.<\/p>\n

“I encourage you to nominate\u00a0an organisation, business, educational institution, or partnership that has made a\u00a0considerable effort in working towards this goal.”<\/p>\n

Nominations close at 5:00pm on Monday, February 22.<\/p>\n
