That is an appalling situation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>I had to drive my husband to Toowoomba last Friday night for CT scan as Kingaroy Hospital has flood damage.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington wrote to Health Minister Yvette D&#8217;Ath about the issue, stating the new CT scanner at the hospital was out of action due to water damage,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Darling Downs Health spokesperson confirmed on Friday an intense downpour on January 18 had led to &#8220;some water&#8221; entering the new hospital.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our staff prioritised patient safety throughout the event, with some patients moved within the hospital for a short time on Monday night as a precautionary measure,&#8221; the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have since been cleaning, fixing any damage, completing building checks and working towards minimising the risk of any similar incidents in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are working with the construction team to assess the timeframes for repairs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would like to thank our Kingaroy Hospital staff for going above and beyond to continue delivering high quality health care for our patients throughout the challenging circumstances brought about by this storm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related article: <a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2021\/01\/27\/minister-quizzed-over-hospital-leaks\/\">Minister Quizzed Over Hospital Leaks<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_293141\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-293141\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210129hospital2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-293141 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210129hospital2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210129hospital2.jpg 740w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210129hospital2-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-293141\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Demolition is well under way on the &#8220;boomerang building&#8221; beside the 1930s hospital<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>southburnett.com.au also raised concerns with Darling Downs Health about the demolition process which began at the hospital on January 19.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heavy machinery began knocking down the brick building on the western side of the complex, which startled some local residents who believed the building was staying.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2017, during a tour of the old hospital by then-Health Minister Cameron Dick, it was stated the most recent wing of the hospital \u2013 known as the \u201cboomerang building\u201d \u2013 would be incorporated into the final design as an outpatients clinic.<\/p>\n<p>Concept plans released in 2017 (see below) showed the &#8220;boomerang building&#8221; remaining.\u00a0\u00a0And the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.qld.gov.au\/darlingdowns\/our-projects\/kingaroy-rebuild\/project-info\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">project website<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0still states: &#8221; The old two-storey hospital building will be demolished. The current wards will be totally refurbished for specialist outpatients, renal dialysis and transfusion \/ tele oncology clinics.
