Police believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in a crash which killed two men on the outskirts of Kingaroy in the early hours of Sunday.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the incident on the Bunya Highway at Taabinga just after 4:30am.<\/p>\n

A Kia stationwagon with three men on board – all foreign nationals – was heading outbound after a trip into Kingaroy to buy cigarettes.<\/p>\n

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Dave Tierney, said the vehicle was negotiating a right hand bend on the highway when, for reasons unknown, it drifted left on to the gravel and grassed edge.<\/p>\n

“It would appear the driver has then tried to correct the vehicle to return it on to the roadway,” Snr Sgt Tierney said.<\/p>\n

“This action has caused the vehicle to lose traction and commence to slide across into the north-east bound lane.”<\/p>\n

The Kia then left the highway, rolled once and landed on its roof before hitting a number of small trees and a secured fence straining post.<\/p>\n

It finished up more than 20 metres off the highway.<\/p>\n

The driver, a 34-year-old Taabinga man, and his passenger, a 39-year-old Kingaroy man, were pronounced dead at the scene by attending paramedics.<\/p>\n

A 24-year-old man was transported to Kingaroy Hospital before being airlifted to the Sunshine Coast Hospital in a stable condition with non life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
