Maidenwell<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>December 23, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be surprised if you see a lot more girls playing cricket after a two-day clinic held in Nanango last week.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the South Burnett&#8217;s best female cricketers led the training: international fast bowler Holly Ferling on Thursday and Brisbane Heat&#8217;s all-rounder Courtney Sippel on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>More than 30 girls aged from 5-14 took part in the training, held at the Nanango Sportsgrounds in Burnett Street.<\/p>\n<p>Nanango was chosen as the location because the Scorpions currently have a large number of female juniors in their ranks.<\/p>\n<p>The girls practised bowling, batting and fielding under the watchful eyes of Holly and Courtney plus Ryan Charles and Nick Roberts, from Queensland Cricket.<\/p>\n<p>They worked in the nets as well as playing mini-games on the main pitch.<\/p>\n<p>And there was also a rather messy, but colourful, finish to the A Grade &#8211; 40-Over Final<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>After dominating throughout the 40-over Gympie A Grade competition, Murgon Crusaders secured a narrow victory against Gympie Valleys in the Grand Final played at Gympie on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gympie won the toss and sent Murgon in to bat.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley Sippel (75 not out) ran out of batting partners with Murgon finishing their 40 overs with 184 runs.<\/p>\n<p>Sippel hit five sixes and five fours during his 2\u00bd hours at the crease.<\/p>\n<p>Next best was Zac Dann with 42.<\/p>\n<p>Gympie got off to a rocky start, losing two quick wickets but their middle order steadied the ship.<\/p>\n<p>The Murgon bowlers were also expensive with a number of wayward balls adding to the Gympie scoreboard.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, Gympie fell just four runs short at the end of their 40 overs, finishing with 8\/180.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley Sippel (2\/31), Graham Brown (1\/17) and Nicholas Sanewski (1\/18) were the best of the Murgon bowlers.<\/p>\n<p>The Gympie A Grade competition will resume on January 9 with the first of the scheduled two-day matches.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #006699;\"><strong>South Burnett Senior Competition<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Kingaroy Services (0\/102) def. Kumbia Rattlers (all out 98) at Kumbia Sports Ground.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kumbia won the toss and batted first but were all out in the 32nd over.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Trace topscored with 17.<\/p>\n<p>Kingaroy bowlers shared the work, with Fletcher Black (3\/12) and Sam Scott (3\/21) each taking three wickets.<\/p>\n<p>Luke Peters took two wickets and conceded just nine runs off his five overs, which included three maidens.<\/p>\n<p>In reply, Kingaroy overhauled the Kumbia target in the 19th over for the loss of no wickets.<\/p>\n<p>Justin Labinsky retired not out on 29; while Christopher David (25) and Luke Peters (32) secured the rest of the runs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In other games:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nanango Scorpions (all out 153) def. Wooroolin Warriors (all out 128) by 25 runs at Nanango Sportsground<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Cherbourg (9\/213) def.
