Well-known country race-caller Harold Kirwin was remembered at a Requiem Mass celebrated in Toowoomba this morning.<\/p>\n

Harold, who was born in Kingaroy, died aged 92 on March 26.<\/p>\n

He began his racing career as an apprentice jockey but switched to race-calling because of weight issues.<\/p>\n

He started calling at Kumbia while living on the family farm nearby.<\/p>\n

In 1958, he moved with his wife, Joan, to Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

He combined a career of race calling around Darling Downs tracks with his day job at the Wheat Board.<\/p>\n

The Mass to celebrate Harold’s life was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
